  Make the Variables window a tab in the SQL Editor

  Could you make the Variables window that pops up in the editor a tab instead that allows us to enter the values? This way I can still see what parameters/values I used. I would like to also be able to switch between windows in TOAD whilst I copy and paste the values into the Variables tab before I execute the query (this would involve scanning for them first and then allowing us to execute so not sure exactly how this ...more »

  Cancel execution but don't wait for Oracle to respond

  I had an instance today where I was compiling a package but it was taking a while to respond so I cancelled it. It never came back but TOAD wouldn't let me carry on either - I kept getting prompted to "Cancel and close tab" or just wait. Cancelling obviously wasn't doing anything so I'd like a third option - to be able to close the tab so I can carry on in TOAD without that session locking it up (threaded queries don't ...more »

  I had an instance today where I was compiling a package but it was taking a while to respond so I cancelled it.   Identifying differing column values for selected rows easily

  I knew you could do it, I just couldn't remember how - and TOAD really doesn't want us to find what I think is a really cool feature:

  Allow renaming a file opened in SQL Editor tab

  It would be good if I could right click on a tab in the SE and select Rename File (instead of rename tab). This would change the name of the file and reflect the name change on the tab.

  (for instances where I have opened a file in the SE)

  single record view - smart window sizing

  When opening the Single Record View it opens so that it can display the longest field which often results in it filling my entire screen. Could it be smart and work out an average or ignore the longest field or even just remember what size I had it open previously? Normally when I open it I want to compare the values with something else but that "something else" is often obscured by the size of the Single Record View. ...more »

  Export as INSERT statements uses MM/DD/YYYY - make configurable

  Allow us to specify a date format to be used when exporting data as INSERT statements.

  Actually, allowing us to specify a date format that will be used for all operations (including this one) would be ideal - then we can just refer them to the default date format as and when they are identified.

  FTP - Remember my Binary, ASCII or Default selection

  Currently it's always set to Default but always need to change it to ASCII. Would be good if it remembered.

  FTP - File Explorer and File Viewer tabs

  What: On the right hand side, make the current File Explorer view a tab so that I can have multiple File Explorer tabs open. Also, have a File Viewer tab so that files that I'm viewing are displayed in TOAD rather than an external editor (where the type can be displayed). Opening a new new File Viewer tab would allow me to enter a complete file path to view the file without navigating to the directory (see previous ...more »

  Why: I'm working in a data warehouse. We have incoming file directories, log directories, archive directories, output directories and we might write to any or all of them when processing files. It would be good to be able to have some/all of these paths open at the same time. It would also be good to be able to view the .log or .bad files within TOAD as well hence the File Viewer tab. I envisage a similar implementation to the SQL Editor where we have SQL and PLSQL types of tabs (although I suspect this is actually a bit trickier)

  FTP - Open File

  Rather than have to navigate to the folder where the file I want to view resides, could we have an Open File button or tab where I can paste in the full path and filename and view the file?

  Display "Column n of n" in the data grid

  In the same way that we currently display "Row n of n" in the data grid, can we also include "Column n of n". This would be particularly useful when I want to add an ORDER BY to my query.

  Dont close all my tabs if I close a Described describe window

  If I describe a package B from a package A within the Describe window, if I then close the Package A tab it will also close the Package B tab. Don't do this. :) I think this is because it is linked to the Navigator pane on the LHS. I'd rather the LHS Nav pane just cleared itself up rather than close all of my linked windows. It's a bit weird when I've described a number of objects and then close an earlier one to ...more »

  I think this is because it is linked to the Navigator pane on the LHS. I'd rather the LHS Nav pane just cleared itself up rather than close all of my linked windows. It's a bit weird when I've described a number of objects and then close an earlier one to clean up some space only to see all of my tabs disappear. I wouldn't even mind if the Nav Pane remained as it is so it preserves the links between objects even if they aren't all still open.

  FTP Tool to remember recent paths

  It would be handy if the FTP Tool would remember my most recently used paths (per FTP connection?). At the moment, once I close the FTP window the MRU list is lost.

  Recover Workspace instead of unsaved SE tabs

  When TOAD crashes, can it recover my session as if it were a complete Workspace and not just the open/unsaved SE tabs I had open? I just had TOAD crash (11.5) and it asked if I'd like to reopen 3 SE tabs I had open that I hadn't saved. It would have been better if TOAD prompted me to re-establish my complete session with files I had open, etc as well. This could be achieved through the use of the new Workspaces functionality? ...more »

  Drag a column header to ORDER BY that column

  Currently we can drag a column into the GROUP BY section of the Data Grid.

  Could we split this section in two and have ORDER BY available as a drag and drop well?

  Options for ASC, DESC, NULLs could be tricky.

  "Execute statement - view Trace File" button

  It would also be nice if I could have a separate button I could add to the toolbar.

  I would like to promote this feature with our Dev's and with a button I could get them to add to their toolbar next to the existing Execute one it would act as a visual reminder that this method of execution might be beneficial.

  But, as an argument for adding it to basic TOAD, if, as I'd hope to do here, it became standard for developers to start using this new method of execution more then TOAD would become the defacto tool for executing statements as it provided this functionality. At the moment it works but that finishing touch would make the functionality complete and would be another good selling point for TOAD (I can't imagine anyone wanting to purchase the DBA Admin module just for this). Just in case you need justification for the sales guys. :)

  F4 Describe default to Package Body

  When I describe a package I would prefer it if I could select for it to always default to the Package Body and not the Package Spec.

  Alter Table - either Apply, Clipboard, Send to Editor or Save As

  Most of the time I use the Alter button in the Schema Browser I actually make my changes, then Show SQL, copy the SQL and then close the Alter window without executing the changes. The reason for this is I have to create DDL scripts in order to be able to propagate the change so I would not apply the changes via the Alter window directly but rather test my DDL script that is to be released. Some options to either Apply, ...more »

  Allow multiple Workspaces to be open at the same time

  l would like to be able to have multiple Workspaces open at the same time. I don't want to have to close a workspace in order to open another one. I would then like to be able to easily switch between the workspaces that I have open. My preference would be for Workspaces to be implemented in the same way as the Connection Bar and Window Bar. Clicking on a Workspace Bar entry would show the Connections/Windows etc ...more »

  Make the SB Filter button an on/off toggle

  Make the SB Filter button an on/off toggle rather than bring up the Filter options. I would like to be able to quickly switch between having the filter applied or not in the SB. I switch the filter on/off more than I actually change it. It would be a similar implementation to the PM Filter button.

  Show file path and name when hovering over tab in Editor

  When I open a file in the Editor it would be useful if there was a better way of seeing the location where that file was opened from. Something like a tool tip that displays the full path when you hover over the file name that is displayed on the tab.

  More granular collapse options in the navigator

  More granular collapse options in the navigator so that one could collapse the Declarations and Parameters nodes by default and leave the others expanded, etc.

  The first thing I do in the Navigator when viewing a package is collapse the Declarations so that I can view the Local Subprograms, would be good if I could set this as a default action.

  It would be good if I could display the following results in the data grid based upon a group of columns (using the existing "group by that column" functionality). For this set I would set COL_A as the "group":

  Basically, what I want to see is the data grid visually display when my defined column(s) value changes. This would be an alternative display option to the "grouping" that currently exists. All of the columns would be displayed in the grid, including the "grouped" ones.

  You would be able to toggle between the grouped or the inline colour differentiation options.

  SB LHS Packages - Declarations should be collapsed by default
