BLOCK SELECTION/EDIT MODE (Column Mode)

to enhace the editor (sql, pl/sql, text) with a "BLOCK SELECTION/EDIT MODE", as it's already availiable in Eclipse, OpenOffice, UltraEdit (there called "Column Mode").

  2. It's been in there already for several releases:

    From Toad help:

    Block select

When selected, you can select a block of text anywhere on the screen by using your mouse to drag a box around it.

When unchecked, text selection works in the standard manner.

    Default: Selected

    1. That did not block select as in Eclipse, OpenOffice, UltraEdit and Textpad. See John Dorlon's post; his suggestion works.

just hold down ALT when you select and it will block select.

As noted, this is already in the product. An elaboration on Bert's post. You'll find the "Block Select" option on the View|Options|Editor|Behavior page.

  5. Hi,

block selection (what in fact means just to copy block of text) is available for longer time.

But anyway, I would appreciate if real block editing is implemented into MOE, so that for such kind of tasks I do not need to use one another tool.

Thanks for all replys to the "Block Select" mode, but this seems not to be a real block selection mode. It's only good to select data, but not to modify or insert block data.

As emhask posted before, I would also appreciate if editing would be possible withing block mode.

for example: mark a column and just write ");"

  8. I also miss this feature - it's true, a block selection exists, but a block edit mode would be very convenient

Since this feature isn't part of TOAD 11 I hope that it will come in the near future - shouldn't be to hard to implement and it would make editing of many lines, for example to add a ';' to many lines at one step, much more convenient

  9. Crimson Editor also does this nicely. It would be nice to toggle it (column mode/standard mode) with a button in a toolbar.

  10. Holding the ALT key will permit selection of column or block text, but the editor does not permit typing in column mode. Like the above poster, I recommend checking out Crimson Editor's excellent implementation of this feature (http://www.crimsoneditor.com/).

  11. Repeating my previous post (responding to recent posts), you cannot type in block mode. This is very handy when you have a list of columns and want to type the same thing in all column names.
